Error description
Overriding the ServiceFactory created by javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory.newinstance() by setting the javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory Java System Property to a non-default value results in WS-Transaction initialization failures. A message is generated in SystemOut of the form: WSWS1033W: Java class com.ibm.ws.Transaction.wstx.WSATSOAPClientHandler that is specified for handler WSATSOAPClientHandler cannot be loaded. The handler is skipped. The exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.ibm.ws.Transaction.wstx.WSATSOAPClientHandler (initialization failure) ... Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.client.ServiceFactory incompatible with com.ibm.wsspi.webservices.rpc.ServiceFactory at com.ibm.ws.Transaction.wstx.WSATServices$1.run(WSATServices.java :83) at com.ibm.ws.security.util.AccessController.doPrivileged(AccessCon troller.java:63) at com.ibm.ws.Transaction.wstx.WSATServices.<clinit>(WSATServices.j ava:74) at com.ibm.ws.Transaction.wstx.WSATSOAPClientHandler.<clinit>(WSATS OAPClientHandler.java:154) at java.lang.Class.forNameImpl(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:410) at com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.utils.ClassUtils$1.run(ClassUtils. java:164) at com.ibm.ws.security.util.AccessController.doPrivileged(AccessCon troller.java:63) at com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.utils.ClassUtils.forName(ClassUtil s.java:157)

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server users of * * JAX-RPC WebServices * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ClassCastException during * * WS-Transaction initialization when * * javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory system * * property is specified * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** WS-Transactions components require the application server's default implementation of the javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory class. If the javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory Java system property is used to change the ServiceFactory implementation returned by the javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory.newInstance() method, then a ClassCastException causes the WS-Transaction initialization to fail.
Problem conclusion
The WS-Transaction components were modified to access the applicationn server's default javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory implementation independently of the javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory Java system property. The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.23 and 9.0.5.15.
