PH49565: RSAD971 PERFORMANCE WHEN OPENING OBJECTS WITH MANY RELATIONSHIPS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When opening an object that has many relationships to/from other
  projects/models/objects, RSAD seems to open every model relating
  to those relationships.  It may be diving to deeply into the
  model structure when it isn't really necessary.
  
  In researching this we found a known issue APAR PH20010.
  However, this was supposed to be addressed in 9.7.0.3 and 9.7.1,
  but the issue seems to persist. We want to figure out why the
  same issue persist in the newer versions.
  
  To open the object the client is simply collapsing the arrow for
  the object in the project explorer. When he does this, the hour
  glass appears and RSAD stops responding. It takes ~35mins for
  RSAD to respond back and open the object.

Problem conclusion

• The performance problem when expanding a model in project
  explorer has been addressed. A new preference option is provided
  to the user in order to enable/disable this feature.
  
  Navigation to option:
  Windows -> Preferences -> Modeling -> Views -> Project Explorer
  -> 'Resolve closed model references while expanding a model'
  
  Default Value:
  Checked i.e., existing behavior.
  
  Option Description:
  checked - Existing behavior. While expanding a model or model
  elements, open the dependent/referenced models this model
  depends on.
  unchecked - While expanding a model or model elements, do not
  open the dependent/referenced models this model depends on.
