    * using resource adapters with heart beat *
    *                  connection health checks.                   *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a connection error event occurs *
    *                      from                                    *
    *                      a heart beat thread, multithreaded      *
    *                      access                                  *
    * to the same connection can occur. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Multithreaded access to the same connection can cause connection
    pool state to report incorrect total connection count values or
    unexpected behavior while the application is using the
    connection.
    Assuming the heart beat thread checking connection and only
    using
    connection error event on bad connections, it's likely the
    application would have experiences error. The main focus of
    this
    apar is on the state of the connection pools total connection
    count.

Problem conclusion

  • The multithreaded access to the connection pool when using
    connection error event has been fixed to handle the heart beat
    connection health check threads that call connection error event
    without knowing the current usage of the connection.

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
    8.5.5.24 and 9.0.5.15. For more information, see 'Recommended
