Error description
When the argument to the SIGN intrinsic function is a numeric literal, the compiler abends with error: CURRENT PHASE: IGYCPGEN CURRENT LINE NUMBER: 000017 REGISTERS 0 - 15: 2B399456 00000000 0008A948 00000000 0001EDD0 00000000 00000000 0008A8F5 00000000 00000000 00017A14 2B387B48 2B399324 2B399068 AB387716 00011DC2 LineID Message code Message text 000017 IGYPG5125-U The compilation was terminated due to a compiler error in phase id: "IGYCPGEN". 000017 IGYPG5201-U Internal compiler error code "PTEXT-07" occurred.
Local fix
Moving the numeric literal argument into an appropriate data item and using the data item as the argument to the SIGN intrinsic function will prevent the error and result in a clean compile.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.3 compiling * * programs that contain an invocation of the * * SIGN intrinsic function with a numeric * * literal argument. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Compiler abort with the following * * message: * * * * IGYPG5125-U The compilation was * * terminated due to a compiler * * error in phase id: "IGYCPGEN". * * * * IGYPG5201-U Internal compiler error * * code "PTEXT-07" occurred. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM-provided PTF. * **************************************************************** An optimization in the compiler for handling literal arguments to the SIGN intrinsic function could result in a compiler abort.
Problem conclusion
The compiler was updated to ensure that literal arguments for the SIGN intrinsic function are handled correctly.
