APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • New function - Output of the primary backup server (BKRBKUP)
service vitual machine's "STATUS" command has been
enhanced to provide backup progress information when
a worker (BKRWRKnn) SVM is backing up large MDISKs
              or file spaces.

This change extends new function provided via
service for APAR PH42721 (PTF UI78527).
When a worker issues message BKRWPU9623I to
document task progress in the worker backup job log,
it will share this status with BKRBKUP. BKRBKUP's
"STATUS" command output will report progress on
a newly-added second line of output.

    Example:

    xxx Cut Here xxx
    Worker info as of 15:50:38:
      BKRWRK01 - Processing job ZVM73EAF/00000003, task 11 of ...
...16; CKD image backup of MDISK SAMPUSER 7305 ...
                 ...since 15:50:22 on Monday, 2 May 2022.
           --->  Progress: ECKD Track 29999 of 50084  <---
    xxx Cut Here xxx

("..." indicates a line wrap. New text is marked
by arrows: "---> new text <---")

Refer to new content in "IBM Backup and Restore
Manager for z/VM - Administration Guide" for
details of configuring in-job progress reporting,
variations of message BKRWPU9632I, and extensions
to the BKRBKUP "STATUS" command response.

Bug fix - Under some conditions, new catalog entries for
the first task after a failed backup task
               may be suppressed.

This update corrects a housekeeping issue in
backup job processing that could suppress
hand-off of new catalog data for the first
backup task executed after recovery from a
failed backup task. Although data is successfully
backed up, the associated catalog entry was
               discarded.
