Error description

  • User running z/OSMF was suddenly unable to start the z/OSMF
Liberty server without IPLing the system. The Liberty log
contained messages like the following indicating a general
    page
    fault (gpf) in the JVM.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND0C4 in checkAuthorization() during *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The ntv_registerServer function is driven during server startup.
Part of this function is to call the checkAuthorization() method
    which is running in 64-bit
addressability. This routine needs to make calls to 31-bit SAF
services. The setup for the call saved the dynamic area address
into what it thought was an unused register prior to invoking
the 31-bit routine. On return from the call to the 31-bit
routine the high-part of the register used to save the 64-bit
address of the callers dynamic area was zeros. When it
referenced its dynamic area it resulted in an ABENDS0C4.

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been modified in the native security code to not rely
on the contents of the general purpose registers across the mode
switch and call to the 31-bit
    SAF service.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
pack 22.0.0.5. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
