Error description

  • CSFE can be used to activate DFHTRAP, and also to activate
task and terminal storage checking. If CSFE DEBUG,TRAP=ON is
entered, just to run DFHTRAP, then SMCK trace calls are seen
even though storage checking has not been requested too:
    SM 0901 SMCK ENTRY - FUNCTION(CHECK_STORAGE) TASK_STORAGE(NO)
This is because epic 64250 and more specifically story 71468
introduced new bits into CSZTRMF5 and CSZTRMF6, and the presence
of CSATRAP (04 in CSATRMF6) causes the code in ERM, EIP, EIG,
TRP and ETR to call DFHSMCK when this is not required. The calls
do little and control returns to the caller. But these calls
should not be being made if no storage checking is to be
    performed.
Defect 172417 has been raised to fix this in development. This
APAR is to backport this serviceability fix to 5.4 and above.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a DFHTRAP is enabled through CSFE *
    * DEBUG, SMCK trace calls occur without *
    *                      storage checking enabled.               *
    ****************************************************************
When a trap is enabled through CSFE DEBUG, for example: 'CSFE
DEBUG,TRAP=ON', CICS will make unnecessary SMCK trace calls such
    as:
    SM 0901 SMCK ENTRY - FUNCTION(CHECK_STORAGE) TASK_STORAGE(NO)
    TP_STORAGE(NO)

These do not cause any harm, but they also do not do anything as
both storage checking options are off, and so the call should
    not be made.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been updated to prevent these SMCK calls from being
    made when not required.
