APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • During a run of CICS TS, there was a CPU issue where the CEMT
    transaction ran for several hours using up quite a bit of the
    CPU. This in turn resulted in other jobs having to wait for
    processor including the CPSM workload routing tasks. The QR TCB
    was busy with running the CEMT transaction throughout the day
    until it relinquished control long enough for a routed task to
    gain access to the QR TCB and to be purged.

    Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s):
    DFHEMTD DFHEMT56 loop looping loops
    INQUIRE-SYSTEM INQUIRE_SYSTEM

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CEMT transaction in a never yielding *
    *                      loop.                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    A CEMT transaction is seen to be running for hours and the CPU
    used by the CICS region is increasing rapidly.
    It is possible to get this loop when CEMT INQUIRE is issued
    and the command contains an argument/keyword.
    DFHEMT56 is the program which will look for a keyword match, but
    one is never found and the browse for one continues for ever.
    The CICS terminal never returned to the user and it is observed
    that the CEMT transaction did not complete.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHEMT56 has been changed to ensure when a keyword match is not
    found that the browse token is still incremented and so avoid
    the loop.
