Error description
When an EJB has methods with same name but different parameters, and also method names that differ in case, below error reports: java.lang.ClassFormatError: JVMCFRE106 duplicate method; class=a/b/c/_EJSRemote0SLASBCBean_cab9549d_Tie, offset=51525 at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClassImpl(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:397) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:358) at com.ibm.ws.classloader.CompoundClassLoader.defineApplication Class(CompoundClassLoader.java:727) at com.ibm.ws.ejbcontainer.jitdeploy.SharedClassDefiner.findLoa dedOrDefineClass(SharedClassDefiner.java:32)

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * * with Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) * * applications * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JVMCFRE106 duplicate method error * * occurs * * for EJB remote interfaces with methods * * that differ only in case * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When an EJB application contains a remote interface with multiple methods by the same name, but where at least one method name has a different case spelling and two methods have the same case spelling but different parameters, then the below error may occur either when the application starts or is used for the first time. This is due to the just-in-time deployment of the tie class used for EJB remote interfaces being generated incorrectly. java.lang.ClassFormatError: JVMCFRE106 duplicate method; class=a/b/c/_EJSRemote0SLASBCBean_cab9549d_Tie, offset=51525 at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClassImpl(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:397) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:358) at com.ibm.ws.classloader.CompoundClassLoader.defineApplication Class(CompoundClassLoader.java:727) at com.ibm.ws.ejbcontainer.jitdeploy.SharedClassDefiner.findLoa dedOrDefineClass(SharedClassDefiner.java:32)
Problem conclusion
The just-in-time deployment code has been updated to ensure duplicate methods are not generated for the tie class. Just-in- time deployment occurs at runtime, so EJB applications do not need to be rebuilt nor re-deployed. The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.22 and 9.0.5.11.
