Error description

  • On AIX, starting the executor of WebSphere Edge Load Balancer
creates an idle kernel process. This process is never
destroyed even if the Load Balancer processes are stopped. A
reboot is necessary to destroy the idle processes created.

Local fix

  • Workaround: Restart the machine.
    No local fix.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: This issue occurs for all AIX Load *
    * Balancer users. The idle processes *
    * may affect AIX 'uptime' reports. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When the Load Balancer executor started on AIX, a
new kernel process is also created. This kernel process is
always in the idle state. The output from 'ps -efk' shows
    these idle processes:
    - pid - - - <idle>
The process are not destroyed when the Load Balancer is
    stopped.
The idle kernel processes can effect the accuracy of 'uptime'.

Problem conclusion

  • The Load Balancer executor was creating a kernel process when
started. This process is never used. The process creation was
originally added when the executor was moved out of the kernel
space but this code was not removed when the executor was
moved back into kernel space due to poor performance running
    outside the kernel space.
