Error description

  • In a multi-domain Windows environment, async license checkouts
will fail under the following conditions:
    1. The albd account resides in one windows domain, for example
    "DOM1"
    2. The account for the user requesting a license (for example
"evansmark") is in a different domain ("DOM2")
    3. The client host performing the license check has the
following registry value present and set to 1:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Atria\ClearCase\CurrentV
    ersion\LookupOnlyFQNames

When the user attempts to perform ClearCase operations, the
following will either be immediately observed, or will happen
within 20 minutes of them accessing VOBs:
    - The user will see one or more "Background license checks are
stalled. You do not have a license to run ClearCase"
    - The lad_server log will contain multiple errors stating that
"Operation 'sysutil_user_to_sid' failed {username}." This log
may only be easily accessible via the Windows Event viewer or by
running "cleartool getlog lad" as the local "Administrator"
    user.

Local fix

  • Set the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Atria\ClearCase\CurrentV
ersion\LookupOnlyFQNames value to 0 or delete the value. It is
never set by default, and can only be set by editing the
    registry.
