Error description

  • Support for passing XID to Db2 added at CICS TS 5.5 is not
    working as expected.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CICS-Db2 attach will query MVS RRS to *
    * obtain an XID, The CICS-Db2 attach *
    * provides an area of storage too small *
    * to contain the provided XID. *
    ****************************************************************
CICS-Db2 Attach will query MVS RRS to see if a unit of work was
initiated from outside CICS and is being coordinated by MVS RRS.
It will pass in the lu6.2 uowid as a filter and RRS will return
the associated unit of recovery if there is one. If an RRS unit
of recovery is returned, then CICS will obtain the XID
associated with the RRS Unit of Recovery.
The storage area provided by the CICS-Db2 attach to accommodate
the XID is too small and the CICS-Db2 attach will generate a
    CICS originated XID.
If IMS is also in the application environment it will include a
    BQUAL in its generated XID.
The ATRQUERY issued by CICS was sent to all systems in the
sysplex regardless of their RRS logging group.

Problem conclusion

  • The CICS-Db2 attach has been changed to provide a local storage
area large enough to accommodate the RRS generated XID.
The ATRQUERY issued by CICS has been amended to remove the GNAME
parameter so that it defaults to querying systems with the same
RRS logging group as the current system.
