Error description

  • Explorer for z/OS - zExplorer
IBM Developer for z/OS - IDz

When using Remote z/OS Search, or Remote z/OS File Search, if
the target of the search is a filter containing an active data
set on tape, this might trigger an invalid tape mount, in which
the data set name is missing, for example:
    IEC501A M 0C80,555444,SL,COMP,RSED3,STEP1,

This might also cause a S413 abend:
    IEC145I 413-50,IFG0195H,RSED3,STEP1,SYS15442,0C80,555444, 213
    SYS1.VTOC

The related RSED threadpool might hold exclusive access to the
tape volume as a result of this error.

The fix for this issue will detect active data sets on tape for
non-VSAM and non-GDG data sets and will treat them as offline
    datasets.

Local fix

  • zExplorer does not support active data set on tape, which is
not a common media for active data sets.

If the RSED threadpool holds exclusive access to the tape
volume after this error, cancel the RSED threadpool. A new
threadpool will automatically come up if needed.

01.zRSE host may handle the discovery of volsers on tape device
incorrectly. The zRSE host now detects the tape device type
of non-VSAM dataset in catalog search and will treat these
as offline datasets. Browse and Search for these datasets
will be skipped. Note: Remote z/OS File Search to skip
offline datasets implementation is introduced in APAR
       PH37195.

Problem conclusion

  • 01.The zRSE host now detects the tape device type of non-VSAM
dataset in catalog search and will treat these as offline
datasets. Include the required properties bundles in the
utility package for it to load and work properly.
