Error description
When RULES(NOLAXREDEF) is in effect, the compiler will produce messages IGYDS1154-W and IGYDS1073-I for 01-level items whenever there is a length mismatch between redefined and redefining items. Normally these messages are only produced for non-01 level items.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.2 compiling * * programs that contain an 01-level item that * * is redefined by another 01-level item with * * a different length and who want to receive * * messages IGYDS1154-W and IGYDS1073-I to * * inform them of the mismatch. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New function: Users need a way to make * * the RULES option inform them of all * * cases where an item is redefined by an * * item of a different length, even for * * 01-level items. * * * * New sub-options LAXREDEF|NOLAXREDEF * * have been added to the RULES compiler * * option for this purpose. When * * RULES(...,NOLAXREDEF,...) is in * * effect, messages IGYDS1154-W and * * IGYDS1073-I are produced whenever * * there is a length mismatch for a * * redefined item, even for 01-level data * * items. * * * * The default is * * RULES(...,LAXREDEF,...), which * * produces the standard behaviour where * * IGYDS1154-W and IGYDS1073-I are only * * produced to warn about length * * mismatches in non-01 level redefined * * items. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** Currently messages IGYDS1154-W and IGYDS1073-I, which inform users about length mismatches for redefined items, are only produced for non-01 level data items.

Temporary fix
Comments
The compiler was updated to add new suboptions LAXREDEF|NOLAXREDEF to the RULES option. These options provide users with extra flexibility in controlling when messages IGYDS1154-W and IGYDS1073-I are received to inform users of redefined items with mismatched lengths. For a description of changes related to the addition of these new suboptions, please refer to the following sections in the Enterprise COBOL for z/OS 6.x Knowledge Center online: 1) Programming Guide -> Compiling and debugging your program -> Compiler Options -> RULES 2) Customization Guide -> Enterprise COBOL compiler options -> RULES
