Error description

  • When importing sync packets, if the following error occurs at
    the beginning of an import, the packet is incorrectly deleted.
    This most often occurs if the sync import is being performed
    manually on the VOB server or with a custom receipt handler.

    multitool: Error: No permission to perform operation "read
    info".
    multitool: Error: ACL on "vob" kind does not grant you
    "read-info" permission.
    multitool: Error: VOB "\myvob" is not accessible to the current
    user.

    On sync import errors, the packet where the erorr occurred is
    supposed to be preserved in the event that the issue was a
    transient one.

    This issue ONLY occurs on ACL-enabled VOBs. It is not currently
    observed when packets are imported using the sync_receive
    script. However, the deletion of the packet on import failure
    prevents a retry.

Local fix

  • If the import is happening in a custom receipt handler, Set
    CCASE_ACL_RECOVERY_MODE=QUIET in that script.
    If the import is a manual one done as someone other than the VOB
    owner, Set the CCASE_ACL_RECOVERY_MODE environment variable to
    QUIET in that shell before running the import.

    Alternatively, you add the albd account or the ClearCase
    administration group as a "Full control" user in the VOB,
    element, policy, and rolemap ACLs.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * On a ClearCase Multisite recursive import failure, the *
    * condition check before deleting a packet was missing to *
    * check if there is any target VOB available or not. It was *
    * only checking the variable which updates when -invob is *
    * provided. Hence, import process assumed there were no target *
    * VOB available and packet was deleted. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available in ClearCase versions 9.0.1.14, 9.0.2.6 and
    9.1.0.3
