Problem conclusion

  • It was found that a deployed application was actually
    using the eclipse framework shipped with WebSphere Application
    Server. The application makes a call to shutdown part of the
    framework in the middle of the server's lifecycle which leads
    to the null registry and ultimately the NPE.
    
    The WebSphere Application Server code has been updated to
    detect a null extension registry and skip using it when it is
    null.
    
    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
    8.5.5.21 and 9.0.5.9. For more information, see 'Recommended
