PH35637: Persistent GEO215W after MSS0 IPL of Kx system that had run *ALL OFFLINE SECFC CONTROLLING

APAR status

• Closed as Permanent restriction.

Error description

• In the reported case, XRC tertiary (SECFC) devices in MSS2
  were brought online via an XRC=*ALL ONLINE SECFC CONTROLLING
  script. The master Kx-system NeView was subsequently IPL'd
  back into MSS0 before an XRC=*ALL OFFLINE SECFC CONTROLLING
  script was run. From then on, repeated GEO215W SDF alerts were
  observed, incorrectly indicating that the SECFC devices reside
  in an alternate subchannel set.
  

Local fix

• To stop the GEO215W messages from occurring in this scenario,
  do the following:
  
  1. Execute an XRC=*ALL ONLINE SECFC CONTROLLING script to
     actually place the SECFC devices in the active subchannel set
  
  2. Execute an XRC=*ALL OFFLINE SECFC CONTROLLING script to
     return the SECFC devices to the alternate subchannel set.
  
  This allows GDPS to correctly record the status of the SECFC
  devices which in turn will stop the inaccurate SDF alerts.

  alternate subchannel set may continue indefinitely after an IPL
  of the Kx controlling system has already returned them to MSS0.

• No PTF will be provided. Installations that encounter this
  scenario should perform the steps documented in the Local Fix
  for this APAR.
