Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The JCICS API does not declare that *
    * some Container calls can cause a *
    *                      LengthErrorException.                   *
    ****************************************************************
    A JCICS application is developed which uses one of the following
    JCICS Container API methods:

    - getString()
    - get()
    - get(String intoCodePage)
    - get(String intoCodePage, int sourceOffset, int length)
    - getNoConvert()
    - getNoConvert(int offset, int length)
    - get(byte[] destination, int sourceOffset, int length)
    - get(byte[] destination, int destinationOffset,
          int sourceOffset, int length)
    - getNoConvert(byte[] destination, int destinationOffset,
                   int sourceOffset, int length)
    - getNoConvert(byte[] destination, int sourceOffset, int length)
    - get(int sourceOffset, int length)

    A com.ibm.cics.server.LengthErrorException can occur at runtime
    when such a call is made, however this exception is not
    declared on the methods' signatures.

    Additional keywords: AEIV AJ04 AJ05 JCICSX

Problem conclusion

  • The JCICS Container methods listed above have been updated to
    add com.ibm.cics.server.LengthErrorException as a checked
    exception. As a result applications may need updating when
    recompiled.

    The Javadoc for the affected methods will be updated to add
    LengthErrorException to the list of thrown exceptions.

    The OSGi micro version of com.ibm.cics.server has been
    incremented to 1.800.1.

    The runtime behaviour of CICS has not changed.
