Error description
JDBC connections might hang during error cleanup similar to the stack below. This has been seen mainly with Oracle JDBC drivers. oracle.jdbc.driver.PhysicalConnection.isProxySession(PhysicalCon nection.java:2971) oracle.jdbc.OracleConnectionWrapper.isProxySession(OracleConnect ionWrapper.java:241) com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.dbutils.impl.OracleUtilityImpl.closeProxySe ssion(OracleUtilityImpl.java:331) com.ibm.websphere.rsadapter.OracleDataStoreHelper.doConnectionCl eanup(OracleDataStoreHelper.java:412) com.ibm.websphere.rsadapter.Oracle11gDataStoreHelper.doConnectio nCleanup(Oracle11gDataStoreHelper.java:346) com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.spi.WSRdbManagedConnectionImpl.cleanupState s(WSRdbManagedConnectionImpl.java:4497) com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.spi.WSRdbManagedConnectionImpl.cleanup(WSRd bManagedConnectionImpl.java:4304) com.ibm.ejs.j2c.MCWrapper.cleanup(MCWrapper.java:1891) com.ibm.ejs.j2c.FreePool.cleanupAndDestroyMCWrapper(FreePool.jav a:767) com.ibm.ejs.j2c.PoolManager.reserve(PoolManager.java:4025) com.ibm.ejs.j2c.PoolManager.reserve(PoolManager.java:3117) com.ibm.ejs.j2c.ConnectionManager.allocateMCWrapper(ConnectionMa nager.java:1556) com.ibm.ejs.j2c.ConnectionManager.allocateConnection(ConnectionM anager.java:1035) com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.jdbc.WSJdbcDataSource.getConnection(WSJdbcD ataSource.java:646) com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.jdbc.WSJdbcDataSource.getConnection(WSJdbcD ataSource.java:613)
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server using Oracle's JDBC driver to * * connect to their database. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: During database connection cleanup * * the JDBC driver might hang attempting * * to connect to the database. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** JDBC connection threads are hanging for long periods in the server. This usually happens when the backend is an Oracle database. Look for com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.spi.WSRdbManagedConnectionImpl.cleanup() as part of a stack dump from the hung thread.
Problem conclusion
The JDBC connection cleanup logic has been updated to utilize the abort function to prevent hangs in the JDBC driver. The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack 9.0.5.9.
