Error description
Abend04E rc00E70005 DSNXESX4 P404 may occur, even with APAR/PTF PH27933 UI72141 applied. It turned out that an internal variable was miscalculated. In this particular example, SQL Statement is MERGE. SQLCA is showing: SQLCODE -901 (FFFFFC7Bx) Error message text PTR NOT FOUND IN DVS BLOCKS Routine detecting the error DSNXESX4 DSNXESX4 Level: UI67202 Additional Keyword and Symptoms: SQLCODE901
Local fix
BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION: In this environment, there was no further observation of the abend after PTF UI72141 (for APAR PH27933 ) has been restored. Another possible workaround is to use REOPT(NONE).
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All DB2 for z/OS users who have applied * * PH27933/UI72141 and use REOPT(ONCE) or * * REOPT(AUTO) option * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * ABEND04E RC00E70005 DSNXESX4 P404 * * may occur when a SQL MERGE statement * * is run, and PH27933/UI72141 was * * previously applied. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply corrective PTF when available * **************************************************************** PH27933 fixed ABEND04E RC00E70005 DSNXESX4 P404 caused by Db2 under-calculated the storage needed for local control blocks of a large and complex SQL statement with REOPT(ONCE) and multiple index access and thousands of predicates. But PH27933's fix miscalculated local control block's size, causing DSNXESX4 P404 being incorrectly issued for SQL statement that should not receive ABEND04E RC00E70005.
Problem conclusion
The Db2 code has been changed to correctly calculate the size of local control blocks, no more incorrect ABEND04E RC00E70005 DSNXESX4 P404 being issued. KEYWORDS: ABEND04E RC00E70005 DSNXESX4 P404
