Error description

  • When disabling a Liberty JVMSERVER that uses the cicsts:link-1.0
    feature it may never complete disabling. It may remain in the
    disabling state. Reviewing the messages the CICS region issues:

    DFHSJ0007 applid Unexpected signal received by JVMSERVER:
    jvmserver

    You may also see:

     - A CEE3250C reporting a U501 abend.
     - gpfs (general protection faults) occur in the JVM.

    This problem occurs when Liberty notifies CICS that a link to
    Liberty application has been removed late in JVM server disable
    processing. At this time it is not possible to make a CICS
    domain call as the "CICS Framework stop" thread does not have
    access to CICS services.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Liberty JVMSERVER using the *
    *                      cicsts:link-1.0 feature hangs when      *
    *                      disabled.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    A Liberty JVMSERVER is configured to use the cicsts:link-1.0
    feature. When the JVMSERVER is disabled CICS tells Liberty to
    shutdown. Liberty removes the cicsts:link-1.0 feature and
    informs CICS that the PROGRAM(s) available via EXEC CICS LINK
    have been removed. Depending on workload and timing this may
    occur when no CICS-enabled threads are available. If this
    occurs the JVMSERVER will hang in a disabling state and a
    DFHSJ0007 message may be issued.  A CEE3250C reporting a U501
    abend and gpfs (general protection faults) in the JVM may also
    be reported.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been updated so that if no CICS-enabled threads are
    available when notified to remove a PROGRAM that an Exception
    is reported, no abends occur and the JVMSERVER completes
    disabling successfully. As a result a PROGRAM definition may
    remain which will be removed when CICS is next restarted.
