PH30837: ECLIPSELINK CONVERTS BOOLEAN VALUES TO INTEGER VALUES IN CASE EXPRESSIONS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When executing a JPQL query that contains Boolean literal
  values, EclipseLink replaces those literal values with Integer
  values. The result of the query is then returned as an Integer
  type, which is not intuitive and can cause a
  ClassCastException.
  

Local fix

• The application could be rewritten to expect an Integer value,
  then the ClassCastException would not occur, however this does
  not really make sense considering the JPQL being provided.

  EclipseLink may not throw an exception. The result of an SQL
  query may be an Integer type when a Boolean was expected,
  leading to a ClassCastException from the application.
  

Problem conclusion

• The fix for this APAR changes the EclipseLink implementation
  and involves an update to the thirdparty source. See

  This fix is currently targeted for WebSphere Application
  Server 9.0.5.7 and WebSphere Liberty 20.0.0.12. For more
