APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • IBM Explorer for z/OS - zExpl
DBCS characters are sometimes not translated when doing a
Dependency Based Build (DBB) or
a copy from local file to remote USS file.

The DBCS characters are changed at the buffer length
when they are being transferred from the client to the server.

Local fix

  • Go to Window>Preferences>Remote Systems>Files and modify the
File Transfer Buffer Size to be larger than the size of the file
After changing the buffer size you will need to restart the
workspace into order for the new preference to take effect

Problem summary

  • Uploading UNIX files that have DBCS characters and are larger
than the transfer buffer size can result in corrupt characters

Problem conclusion

  • If the end of chunk of the file to upload lands on a DBCS
character, the splitting of that character can corrupt the
resulting file
