PH29895: ALTER/COMPARE ADD OR CHANGE COLUMN DEFAULT VALUE REPORT CONTAINS '<STRING CONSTANT>' NOT ACTUAL VALUE

APAR status

Error description

• For a change which adds or modifies a default value to a column,
  the OBJECT ALTERING or COMPARISON REPORT does not include
  the actual value, but rather refers to it as '<string
  constant>', as in the following example:
  
  Nulls/default changed from NOT NULL
  to NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT <string constant>
  
  With this APAR applied the report will display the actual new
  default value when the data type is a string.

  Compare currently reports a change to a column defaults as
  follows:
  
  Column MY_COLUMN
  (A)Nulls/default changed from NOT NULL
  to NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT <string constant>
  
  Notice that <string constant> is listed instead of the new
  value. With this APAR applied, the actual new default value will
  be displayed, provided that the column's default value is a
  string.
  

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been resolved specifically for the case where
  <string constant> is displayed.
