Error description

  • Message received;
    DFHAP0001 <APPLID> An abend (code 0C4/AKEA)
has occurred at offset X'00000380' in module DFHEDFP.

    The failing transaction is CEDF.

The failing instruction in this case is a ZAP(Zero and Add)
    instruction:

    F832 6154 4009 ZAP 340(4,R6),9(3,R4)

R6 does not contain a valid address which is what causes the
program check. R6 is derived from R3 which is pointing to a
TSIOA, and this area is being used to get the debug linkage
area address, and causes the program check.

In the trace we see that CEDF was started by transaction CSKL
and passed a FROM area. This is unexpected, as CEDF is typically
    terminal initiated.

    With EI 2 tracing on this can be seen in the trace;

00084 QR AP E160 EXEC ENTRY START TRANSID('CEDF' AT X'2CFBF32C')
                     INTERVAL(0 AT X'2CFBF323') FROM

    Task# 00084 is CSKL:

    0126 ***Running** 00084 CSKL EZACIC02 n/a

If no FROM area is passed, an AEDA abend is encountered versus
    the 0C4.

Note the offset into DFHEDFP can be 37A or 380 depending
on the FROM data passed to CEDF.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ASRA abend / 0C4 program check raised *
    * when CEDF is STARTed with FROM data *
    ****************************************************************
Attempting to START CEDF with FROM data results in an ASRA abend
/ 0C4 program check, and this message:

    DFHDU0203I 10/08/2020 14:17:59 applid A transaction dump was
taken for dumpcode: ASRA, Dumpid: 1/0003, Tranid: CEDF, Tranum:
    00000066, Program: DFHEDFP.

Usually CEDF is terminal-initiated and starting CEDF in this way
    is documented as invalid.

If an attempt to START CEDF without FROM data is made, then the
result is an AEDA abend, and the message:

    DFHDU0203I 10/08/2020 14:16:04 applid A transaction dump was
taken for dumpcode: AEDA, Dumpid: 1/0001, Tranid: CEDF, Tranum:
    00000062, Program: DFHEDFP.

    Keywords: abendASRA, abendAEDA.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHEDFP has been changed to ensure that invalid requests to
START CEDF are rejected with an AEDA abend, rather than an ASRA
    abend.
