APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The install_ihs installer program creates the needed symlinks
using output from the ls command. If an alias is used for ls
(ie: alias ls='ls -alF'), then install_ihs fails with No such
file or directory" errors. Output will show something like
    this:

Copying install directory and creating symlinks...
ln: FSUM6245 link to target "/etc/websrv1/.31bit/" failed:
EDC5129I No such file or directory.
ln: FSUM6245 link to target "/etc/websrv1/IBM/" failed:
EDC5129I No such file or directory.
ln: FSUM6245 link to target "/etc/websrv1/bin/" failed:
EDC5129I No such file or directory.
ln: FSUM6245 link to target "/etc/websrv1/build/" failed:
EDC5129I No such file or directory.
ln: FSUM6245 link to target "/etc/websrv1/conf/" failed:
EDC5129I No such file or directory.

ls -l output of /etc/websrv1 will show unexpected directories
    created.

Local fix

  • disable ls alias and then run install_ihs

Problem conclusion

  • THe install_ihs script was updated to avoid using aliases
    for
    'ls'.

The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in IBM HTTP
    Server
fix packs 8.5.5.19 and 9.0.5.6. For more information, see
    'Recommended Updates
    for WebSphere Application Server':
    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/715553

Temporary fix

  • Temporarily unset the alias for 'ls' before running install_ihs.
