APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Extraneous binding file in application META-INF can cause
    StringIndexOutOfBounds during policy-set attachement.

Local fix

  • Remove the extraneous binding.xml file from the application
    META-INF directory.

Problem summary

    * Web services policy set configuration *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: StringIndexOutOfBoundsException occurs *
    * when attaching policy set *
    * bindings using Admin Console *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When attaching policy set bindings to a Web services
application using Administrative Console, the following
    exception may occur:
    PolicySetAtta 3 PolicySetAttachmentCollectionAction: Failed
    in assigning the binding for:
    PlcyUtility/PlcyUtility.war:{http://www.testpolicygrp.com/policy
    model/wx}PolicyObjectManagerService -
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of
    range: 0

Problem conclusion

  • The Web services code assumes that the bindings.xml file is
packaged under the META-INF/PolicySets directory, but since
bindings.xml was incorrectly packaged under META-INF, it caused
StringIndexOutOfBoundsException when the policy set code tried
    to read the bindings.xml file.
The policy set code is updated to ignore any extraneous
bindings.xml files that are incorrectly packaged in the
    application.
