Error description

  • CICS TS 5.5 changed the way that CICS manages the release of USS
    processes such as L8 and L9 TCBs.

    This APAR is to provide a new feature toggle to make it possible
    to switch back to the pre CICS TS 5.5 design.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Since CICS TS 5.5 USS process release *
    *                      behaviour has changed for L8 and L9     *
    *                      TCBs.                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    Usage of IP CICS Sockets can result in additional CPU usage from
    CICS TS 5.5. This is as a result of a change in CICS TS 5.5 to
    make a BPX1MPC call when returning an L8/L9 TCB to the pool at
    end of task. This ensures that USS processes do not persist
    longer than is necessary.
    This APAR introduces a feature toggle to allow the behaviour to
    be reverted to that of CICS TS 5.4 and before, under guidance of
    IBM Support.

Problem conclusion

  • New feature toggle 'com.ibm.cics.ds.freeussprocesses' has been
    introduced to allow this USS process release logic to be altered
    under the guidance of IBM Support.

    The Knowledge Centers for CICS TS 5.5 and 5.6 will be updated
    to document this new feature toggle.
