Error description

  • QSAM encountered ABENDS878 with GETMAIN processing of buffer.
    This buffer is acquired below 16MB, and the value of the
    READNUM parameter of DRF affects the number of times this buffer
    is acquired.
    
    The following DRF functional improvement will be implemented:
    ·VSCR support for QSAM buffer (GETMAIN QSAM buffer above 16MB)
    ·Changing the default value of the DRF READNUM parameter and the
    DRF sample JCL (READNUM value change from (3,10) to (3,3)).

    In the DRF log read task, QSAM gets buffers below 16MB to read
    the log data set. If multiple log read tasks are running in
    parallel, storage shortage below 16MB may occur, and ANENDs with
    S878.
    The maximum number of log read tasks can be specified by the
    READNUM parameter of DRF, but in order to reduce the risk of
    S878 ABEND, DRF must be changed as follows:
    
    - Provide VSCR support for QSAM buffer
      (GETMAIN QSAM buffers above 16MB)
    - Change the default value of the DRF READNUM parameter and the
      DRF sample JCL (READNUM value changed from (3,10) to (3,3))
    

Problem conclusion

  • FRXYALL0, FRXMINI0 and internal COPY member are modified to
    support VSCR for QSAM buffer.
    FRXEDRF0 and internal MACRO member are modified to change the
    default value of READNUM parameter.
    FRXDRFZZ(sample member) is modified to change the value of
    READNUM parameter in the DRF sample JCL.
