Error description
The following 2 new messages will be implemented in CICS: - DFHSJ0007 will be issued by the IPT of a JVM server when the BPX4MP call is resumed by a signal. The message indicates that a signal has been received, which is an unexpected situation. CICS cannot identify which signal it is. This message could be used in a SLIP to capture a dump as close as possible to the time of the signal so that the originator can be determined. - DFHSJ0008 will be issued by the IPT of a JVM server when the PIPI_CALL_SUB call used to run the JVM has been forcibly terminated. At this point the JVM has definitely gone. This message can be used for automation to recycle the CICS region because the JVM is no longer usable but is still marked as enabled.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: No specific CICS messages are issued * * when a JVM server receives a * * terminating signal. * **************************************************************** A JVM server is running in CICS. A terminating signal (e.g. SIGABRT) is targeted at the JVM. This causes the JVM to terminate without CICS knowledge. The JVM will be left in an unusable state and the CICS region must be recycled to get the JVM operational again. There are no specific CICS messages issued when the signal is received or when the JVM gets stuck. This means that automation software is unable to take action in response to this situation.
Problem conclusion
CICS has been changed to issue new messages in this scenario. DFHSJ0007 will be issued when a signal is received by the JVM. The message will be issued when any signal is received. The type of signal will determine if the JVM terminates or not. If the signal is a concern and the source is unknown then this message could be used in a MSGID SLIP to capture OMVS diagnostics to determine the source. DFHSJ0008 will be issued when the process running the JVM has terminated unexpectedly. This will most likely occur after message DFHSJ0007 has been issued. At this stage the JVM has been terminated. This message can be used by automation to recycle the CICS region. The CICS 5.4 and 5.5 Knowledge Centers will be updated to add the following descriptions of DFHSJ0007 and DFHSJ0008 DFHSJ0007 APPLID Unexpected signal received by JVMSERVER: JVMSERVER EXPLANATION: The initial pthread TCB for JVMSERVER resource jvmserver has received a signal. This JVM server is not expected to be the target of external signals. SYSTEM ACTION: None USER RESPONSE: The JVMSERVER resource jvmserver has been the target of a signal. The effect of the signal on the JVM depends on the type of signal that was sent. If the signal forces termination of the JVM then message DFHSJ0008 will also be issued. No action is required, but this message could be used in a MSGID SLIP to capture a dump which can help identify the cause of the signal. NOTE: This message cannot be changed with the message editing utility. DESTINATION: Console MODULE: DFHSJPTI DFHSJ0008 APPLID Unexpected termination of the JVM has been detected for JVMSERVER: JVMSERVER EXPLANATION: The initial pthread TCB for JVMSERVER resource jvmserver has detected that the JVM has unexpectedly terminated. SYSTEM ACTION: None. USER RESPONSE: The JVMSERVER resource jvmserver will become unresponsive and it will not be possible to restart it. You should cancel CICS if you cannot run without the JVM server. NOTE: This message cannot be changed with the message editing utility. DESTINATION: Console MODULE: DFHSJPTI
