APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When using File Manager Data Set Copy (DSC) function, which by
    default uses DFSORT to do the copy, and the output data set is
    defined with options RLSE and DD=*.ddname, File Manager
    allocates only 1 cylinder of primary space regardless of what
    is specified for space on the output DD statement.

Local fix

  • Workaround options:
    1) add in $$FILEM NOSORT (disable DFSORT)

    or

    2) explicitly define the DCB for the output data
    set, for example: DCB=(RECFM=FB,LRECL=80,BLKSIZE=27920)
    In other words, specify the same attributes on the output data
    set as specified for the input data set instead of using
    DCB=*.ddname

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users using the DSC function in batch. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The output dataset is created with a *
    *                      minimum first extent if DCB=*.ddname    *
    *                      and SPACE=(CYL,(x,y),RLSE) are          *
    * specified on the output ddname. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    File Manager has been modified to ensure the correct first
    extent is defined for the output dataset.

Problem conclusion

  • File Manager has been modified to ensure the correct first
    extent is defined for the output dataset.
