Error description

  • CICS region was using excessive CPU and it appears we have a
recursive abend in transaction CISS related to a new IPIC
    definition.
    .
CICS was cancelled with a dump.
    Dump shows:
A CISS task looping on the SO TCB with repeating
0C4/AKEX issued by DFHLEPTQ +x216 in its recovery routine
    on instruction 5000 7020 ST R0,32(,R7)
This CISS task also owns an S8 TCB
    .
CICS has gone MXT with CISS tasks which arrived after the
first CISS went into the loop on SO TCB.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: High CPU usage after abend on an S8 TCB *
    * resulting in a loop in DFHLEPTQ *
    *                      recovery.                               *
    ****************************************************************
An abend occurs on an S8 TCB which drives recovery in DFHLEPTQ
on a different TCB. DFHLEPTQ issues a change mode to the S8 TCB
which fails. DFHLEPTQ assumes that we are running on the S8 TCB
and drives a codepath which is inappropriate for the TCB which
we are running on. This leads to an abend 0C4 which drives the
same recovery routine again resulting in a recursive loop.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHLEPTQ has been changed to check for the response from the
change mode request and percolate if there is an error.
