Error description

  • A run job which involves altering partition keys, and adding a
    partition (ending at MINVALUE or MAXVALUE) to a table that
    already contains MINVALUE or MAXVALUE as a limit key, may fail
    with the following error:

    DSNT408I SQLCODE = -20385, ERROR:THE STATEMENT CANNOT BE
    PROCESSED BECAUSE THERE ARE PENDING DEFINITION CHANGES FOR
    OBJECT >database name<.>tablespace name< OF TYPE TABLESPACE
    (REASON 2)

    Note: It was discovered that the potential solution of adding
    a REORG before the ALTER ADD PARTITION that caused this error
    would result in data loss. With this APAR applied, therefore,
    Admin Tool will DROP/CREATE the tablespace instead of using
    ALTER to make these changes.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: User of DB2 Administration Tool for Z/OS who *
    * alter and add partition keys to a Table when *
    * the Table already contains MAXVALUE or *
    *                 MINVALUE as a key.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a compare of two tables results in *
    * altering and adding partition keys, *
    * executing the resulting statements ends *
    *                      in error with SQLCODE = -20385.         *
    ****************************************************************
    In this scenario, instead of adding a reorg between the alter
    partition key statements and add partition key statements to a
    Table, the resulting Compare will be to drop/create the Table.
    If Alters are preferred in this scenario, the alter to the
    partition keys and the addition of partitions keys should occur
    in separate changes instead of being combined in a single
    change.
