APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Use codes a dash ( - ) in the workstation name qualified in
the START TRACE command in DSN1SDMP and it is regected with an
INVALID CHARACTER message. The same dash in the real START
TRACE command is accepted. Also, the workstation name, which
is entered with lower case characters, is displayed in all CAPS
    during a DISPLAY TRACE.

Local fix

  • Use a wildcard character in place of the dash if the semantics
    allows.

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available. *
    ****************************************************************
The utility DSN1SDMP is a tool to capture current values
of a particular SQL statement and produce a dump when the
    condition is found.
    .
The DSN1SDMP requires a START TRACE command to process and
filter the corresponding threads so it can capture the values
    intended.
    .
During the normal parsing of the utility control statement,
optional START TRACE parameter constraint values were not
considered valid because dashes (-) were not accepted in the
    parsing of the utility.
    .
Once such example is below for the START TRACE section:

    START TRACE=P CLASS(32) IFCID(340) DEST(SMF)
       WRKSTN('CG-Gb7-p7001A-GB7')
    .
The preceding text in the utility control statement would
result in a syntax error as reported. Now, DB2 code has been
changed to accept dashes in the contraint.

Problem conclusion

  • DB2 and DSN1SDMP parsing has been modified to accept dashes
in the START TRACE constraint block.
