Error description

  • After upgrading to CICS TS 5.5 from CICS TS 5.4, we have a
    problem with a program using the INVOKE SERVICE command.

    In CICS TS 5.5 the program is invoking the same service to the
    same server with the same message receives an EIBRESP 16 with
    EIBRESP2 value of 41 indicating the connection has been closed.

    Also, DFHPI0404, DFHPI0400 and DFHPI0997 messages are produced.
    The DFHPI0997 message states WEBSERVICE *NONE* The CICS pipeline
    manager has encountered an error: unidentified problem.

    In CICS TS 5.4, the same program invoking the same service to
    the same server with the same message receives EIBRESP 0 and
    EIBRESP2 0 with no messages getting produced.

    Trace shows:

    HTTP 500 internal error and receiving faultCodeDP1001.

    This problem is caused by a restructure of the DFHWBCL to
    support 64-bit buffers. In this case the request was rejected.
    A 500 Internal Server Error was returned with a response body
    but without a Content-Length header. DFHWBCL attempts to keep
    receiving the body until the connection is closed. That process
    works OK but the EXCEPTION/CONNECTION_CLOSED response gets
    propagated back to DFHPITH instead of being reset to OK.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: INVOKE SERVICE or INVOKE WEBSERVICE *
    *                      fails with messages DFHPI0404,DFHPI0400 *
    *                      and DFHPI0997.                          *
    ****************************************************************
    An INVOKE SERVICE or INVOKE WEBSERVICE call receives a HTTP
    response with a "Connection: close" header, no "Content-Length"
    header and a response body. As no content length was specified,
    CICS will issue a socket receive until all the data has been
    received and return an INVREQ with a RESP2 of 41 to the
    application.
    This results in the messages DFHPI0404, DFHPI0400 and DFHPI0997
    being issued.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHWBCL has been changed so that if a HTTP response with a body
    is received with no content length specified, and the sender
    closed the connection, then normal response will be returned.
