Error description
Customer's web-application-firewall (WAF) finds an instance of JSESSIONID cookie value contains 2 consecutive dashes (--), for example, 111--11111111 and WAF then complains this is a potential SQL-injection attack.

**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Avoid using double dashes in the * * JSESSIONID cookies * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When there is 2 consecutive dashes (--) found in the JSESSIONID cookie, Web-Application-Firewall (WAF) always gave false alarm of potential SQL-injection attack. This caused many alerts were logged and was unable to filter from WAF.
Problem conclusion
Code changes were made to skip any double dashes in the JSESSIONID cookies and regenerate new one. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.16 and 9.0.5.1.
