Error description

  • The sample JCL to run the z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition build
toolkit, BAQZCBT, supplied in the SBAQSAMP dataset fails with
the following messages if an unsupported version of Java is
referenced:
Exception in thread "main"
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError:
JVMCFRE003 bad major version;
class=com/ibm/zosconnect/buildtoolkit/cli/BuildToolkit, offset=6

  • Correcting the profile to use a newer version of Java, 7 or
above.

When invoking zconbt.zos on z/OS systems, zconbt.bat on Windows
systems, or zconbt on Unix systems the PATH environment
variable can be overridden by the execution environment. The
PATH is used by the build toolkit to locate the JRE. If this
causes a back level Java to be used, the reported "bad major
version" message can be written.

  • The z/OS Connect EE build toolkit has been updated so that if
environment variable ZCN_SHDBG is set to a value (e.g. true)
the zconbt command will log execution details.  This output can
be used to debug issues with referencing Java SDK's for example.


The fix for this APAR is expected to be delivered by the PTF for
z/OS Connect EE V3.0.30.0 (PH19977).
