PH09140: Liberty server request failures after the angel process is canceled

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A Liberty angel process was canceled. Liberty servers that
were connected to that angel process exhibit odd behavior
after the cancel. Some requests fail. There can be
occasional 0D6 or 0C4 abends as the Liberty server tries to
use the PC routines that had been established by the angel
    process.

    ****************************************************************
A Liberty server can optionally connect to an Angel process to
use the PC routines the Angel provides, and become authorized to
perform certain functions, such as authorization checking using
SAF. If the server is connected to an Angel process, the Angel
process must remain active for the lifetime of the Liberty
server. If the Angel process is canceled, or terminates for any
other reason, the server will be unable to use the PC routines
provided by the Angel. This may result in 0D6 or 0C4 abends,
and other unexpected conditions in the Liberty server. The
Liberty server should terminate in a consistent way, to avoid
the non-deterministic behavior that occurs when the Angel is no
    longer available.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was added to ABEND a Liberty server with an EC3 abend if it
is connected to an Angel process, and that Angel process
    terminates.
