Error description
Customer experienced a WAIT014 system outage due to a CVT overlay with a linkage stack entry. This occurred after shutting down the CQM monitor. Root cause was determined to be module CQCTTEX1 using a pointer that unexpectedly contained an address of zero. This resulted in incorrect data access leading to a wild branch in system key7. Typically a wild branch will result in an ABEND0C1 or ABEND0C4. In the customer's case the z/OS system trace table showed many ABEND0C1 errors being retried by Rocket Software FRR CQCMMFRR. However a bad branch may also result in execution of data as an instruction, or may result in random instruction execution, with highly unpredictable results. In this customer's case, data looking like a LCTL load control register instruction was executed, corrupting CR15 (which is used as a linkage stack pointer) such that it pointed to system CVT control block, leading to the CVT overlay the next time CR15 was used. . Also resolves the following: 0C4-00000011 (DSNLFRCV+04BE) 0C4-00000004 (DSNB1GET+09D6)

Problem conclusion
The problem was triggered by zero address pointer to a CQM control block which caused a wild branch to execute unpredictable codes. The fix prevents this condition. Search Keywords: WAIT STATE, SPIN LOOP.
