PH08774: SUPPORT STRING LITERALS FOR USE WITH GRAPHIC COLUMNS IN COLUMN MAPS

APAR status

• Closed as new function.

Error description

• Customer attempted to use (simple) string literals in Optim
  Column Maps against GRAPHIC type columns. He received the
  LITERAL OR SPECIAL REGISTER IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH DESTINATION
  TYPE error.
  
  The decision to not support simple string literals when used
  against GRAPHIC/VARGRAPHIC/DBCLOB columns was a conscious one.
  DB2 does not allow such for SQL queries.
  
  This APAR will provide the enhancement required for enabling
  such support.

Problem conclusion

• Optim code will be enhanced to provide the requested function.
  Simple string literals, as well as hexadecimal (X) type literals
  will be now supported within Optim Column Maps.
  Note that their value will be assumed to be expressed in the
  CCSID of the Optim plan converted
  to the CCSID (UTF-16) of the destination column.
