Error description

  • This error is seen in the DMGR logs:

    at org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.commonarchivecore.internal.impl.
    CommonarchiveFactoryImpl.createChildLoadStrategy
    (CommonarchiveFactoryImpl.java:945)
    This data is being generated by the WebSphere Tools Platform
    (WTP) component. The problem can be worked around by increasing
    the amount of space allocated to the /tmp file system.
    The client is requesting a way for the component to use a
    different location to hold it data.

Local fix

  • Increase the amount of space allocated to the /tmp file system.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The Intelligent Management component of WebSphere
    Application Server needs to scan all of the installed
    applications when the deployment manager starts. Since the
    applications are stored in an EAR file and are not stored in
    expanded form, the deployment manager has to expand the
    applications during startup before scanning.
    The applications are scanned one at a time. Each application
    is removed from temp space after it is scanned. Therefore,
    temp space must be at least large enough to hold the largest
    application in its expanded form.

Problem conclusion

  • A new JVM custom property has been added. The following
    setting will reduce system temp space usage during deployment
    manager startup:

    ArchiveUtil.allowWtpToUseSystemTemp=false

    This redirects the WTP (WebSphere Tools Platform) component of
    WebSphere Application Server to use the "/wstemp/wtptmp" under
    the root directory of the profile, instead of using system
    temp space.

    The WTP component is the component responsible for expanding
    applications during the startup of the deployment manager.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 8.5.5.16 and 9.0.5.0. Please refer to the
