Error description

  • When adding new columns to hadoop (hive) tables with ALTER
statement users can no longer query the table and the data will
no longer be readable afterwards through DB2 Big SQL.

Sample Error:
SQL5105N  The statement failed because a Big SQL component
encountered an error. Component receiving the error: "BigSQL
IO". Component returning the error: "UNKNOWN". Log entry
identifier: "[BSL-1-2e9bb385]".  SQLSTATE=58040

Local fix

  • - Upgrade to 5.0.4
OR
- Recreate the tables using ORC file format.
OR
- Turn off vectorized parquet (Will slow performance)
