Error description

  • When IDz 14.1 is used with Microsoft Windows Terminal Server and
users are forced off of current sessions with shutdown /l/f
command, work is auto-saved, but the files are deleted.
Normally, auto-save will create a back-up of the previous work.

To recreate on Microsoft Windows Terminal Server:
     1. Enable the auto-save function under
    Preferences->COBOL->Editor->Autosave.
     2. Edit a COBOL member and do not save the changes
     3. When the aut-osave interval elapses, a file is created in
    the path under <workspace
    folder>/.metadata/.plugins/com.ibm.systemz.cobol.editor.jface/au
    tosave/...
     4. Run the following windows command to logoff forcefully:
         shutdown /l /f
     5. After logging back in, the autosave file and the containing
    folder have been deleted.
The autosave files are deleted by
    com/ibm/systemz/common/editor/AbstractAutosaveController.deleteB
    ackup
    as Eclipse is shutting down.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When an administrator forces shutdown of Windows workstations
that are running with IDz, the backup files for the COBOL editor
     are lost.

Problem conclusion

  • The backup files are deleted because IDz detects the closing of
the editor and assumes the user chose not to save. However
during forced shutdown this happens automatically without
prompting the user. To ensure the backups are not lost, IDz
should always keep the backup file if there are unsaved changes.
