PH05868: CM BATCH OBJECT COMPARE DROP/CREATE COLUMN TEMPORAL TABLE INSTEAD OF DROP/CREATE BASE/TEMPORAL TABLES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A Db2 restriction prevents an ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN or ALTER
  TABLE DROP COLUMN statement from being used to add or drop a
  column in a temporal or history table.   To accomodate this
  restriction, CM Batch and Object Compare currently drop and
  recreate the base and temporal tables.  With this APAR applied,
  however, ALTER TABLE DROP VERSIONING will be executed before
  the ALTER ADD/DROP of the column, and ALTER TABLE ADD
  VERSIONING will be executed after.  The option "Unload Altered
  Tables" must be set to "YES".

  A DB2 Restriction prevents using ALTER TABLE ADD
  COLUMN or ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN for temporal
  and history tables.
  
  CM Batch and Compare will now allow changes to temporal
  and history table columns to be done with ALTER TABLE ADD
  COLUMN and ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN commands,
  by dropping the versioning, executing the ALTERs, and then
  adding the versioning back. Please note that the option
  "Unload Altered Tables" must be set to "YES".
  
  This will occur only if the changes to the columns of the
  temporal and history table are:
  
  1. Appending columns to the end only
  2. Dropping columns only
  3. Both dropping columns and appending columns to the end
  4. Not conflicting with any other DB2 Restrictions for adding
     and dropping of columns
  

Problem conclusion

• Problem has been resolved.
