Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM WebSphere Application Server * * Liberty and the OpenID Connect client * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: OIDC client may send valid access * * tokens to userinfo endpoint on OP that * * are rejected * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When the Liberty OpenID Connect (OIDC) client is configured to use a userinfo endpoint as the validationEndpointUrl, a valid access token that is sent to the OpenID Connect provider (OP) might not be accepted.
Problem conclusion
When the Liberty OpenID Connect client is configured to use a userinfo endpoint as the validationEndpointUrl, the access token is being sent as a query parameter on the request URL instead of an Authorization header on the HTTP request. The OIDC client is updated to send the access token in an Authorization on the HTTP request instead of a parameter on the request sent to the userinfo endpoint on the OP. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 18.0.0.4.
