Error description

  • A 36 byte User monitoring field (DFHMCT TYPE=EMP) is being
displayed as a single character column on a CICS PA LIST report.
Where there is no data present in the CMF user field the report
contains "M" and not "MISSING" as expected.
A SUMMARY report for the same field contains "MISSING"
    .
The character "M" is a valid value for the user field.
Therefore, this is a bit of a nuisance as it's not always clear
    that it's a value of M or it's missing

Local fix

  • Make the report field greater than 7 chars

    ****************************************************************
CICS PA List, ListX and HDB List reports show 1 character user
key fields as M for "missing" when in fact the field exists and
contains valid data which is the single byte character M.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR ensures that missing fields have a unique identifier
that cannot be confused with valid data.
