Error description
High CPU is seen in the DMGR/AppServer control regions and node agent when the TCPIP address space is shut down when using Java 8. A trace shows this message over and over: Trace: 2018/07/10 15:05:31.772 02 t=8C6690 c=UNK key=S2 tag= (13007004) SourceId: com.ibm.son.mesh.Peer ExtendedMessage: UDP: IOException occured. Message ignored. java.net.SocketException: EDC5122I Input/output error. (errno2=0x75E00381) Using java 6, you only see this error: Exception in thread "com.ibm.son.mesh.Peer-tcp-port-6007" java.lang.Error: java.net.SocketException: EDC5122I Input/output error. (errno2=0x749B7308) So it appears java 8 is returning a different exception that the WAS code needs to handle differently.
Local fix
stop the servers before TCPIP is stopped
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server WAS zOS Base- Virtual Enterprise/IM * * Component * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: High cpu usage is seen in control * * regions when the TCPICP address space * * is terminated by use of the FORCE * * command. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When running Java 8, a high cpu condition occurs in the control regions when the TCPICP address space is terminated by use of the FORCE command. Trace logs will also contain the IOException below repetitively: - Trace: 2018/07/10 15:05:31.772 02 t=8C6690 c=UNK key=S2 tag=(13007004) SourceId: com.ibm.son.mesh.Peer ExtendedMessage: UDP: IOException occured. Message ignored. java.net.SocketException: EDC5122I Input/output error. (errno2=0x75E00381)
Problem conclusion
The Peer-to-peer Service Overlay Network (P2P/SON) component was altered to handle the forceful termination of the TCPICP address space without incurring a high cpu condition. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.15 and 9.0.0.9.
