APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • In a busy cluster, sometimes master lim cannot restart after
issuing 'lsadmin reconfig' command. When this happens, user may
find the following error message in lim log file:

"A socket operation has failed on the configured UDP port <port
number> on host <host name>. Reason <Address already in use>.
Fatal error: Either change the port number in lsf.conf
(LSF_LIM_PORT) or terminate the other process that is bound to
the port. "

Local fix

  • This issue can be worked around by defining
LSF_LIM_STARTUP_RETRY_TIME and LSF_LIM_STARTUP_RETRY_INTERVAL in
lsf.conf. The value of the parameters should be long enough to
allow previous child lim to exit, also to free up the port.
