Error description

  • VTAM-A and VTAM-B are connected by ESCON CTCA.
First, both CDRMs are active status. One VTAM(ex. VTAM-A) is
stopped and restarted. Then abend0c4 occurs in module ISTTSCXI
on the other side VTAM(VTAM-B) and the cdrm of VTAM-A is in
PACDR status on VTAM-A. It's still in INACT status on VTAM-B.
Abend0c4 occurs at offset x'e52' in module ISTTSCXI(96.331) that
was called by ISTPUCRT. The failing instruction is 'BA8A,E290'.
    Due to null reg14 r14 which was loaded from ICNCB(reg9) + 46C.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Code was added to take diagnostic dumps should an INOP occur on
MPC or AHHC connection. Modules ISTTSCXI and ISTTSCXR are
among the modules which have coded added for this purpose.
These modules are are also called for basic CTC connections.
The diagnostic dump enhancements stored information in the
MPNCB which was referenced via the CPNMPNCB pointer. In a
basic CTC connection this field is zero, which results in the
ABEND0C4. The ABEND0C4 could show up in ISTTSCXI or ISTTSCXR
depending on which module INOPed the connection.

Problem conclusion

  • Modules ISTTSCXR and ISTTSCXI have been corrected to check the
XCNSNACP is on prior to storing data into the MPNCB.
ISTTSCXE has been included for maintenance purposes.
