Error description
When a dynamic PU (created for an XCA connection network) is displayed the MAXDATA value in message IST956I is incorrect. MAXDATA= on a switched PU has no meaning in this environment because the maximum data that any node can send/receive is determined by the network that it is connected to rather than the boundary node that it is connecting through, such as an XCA or NCP (Frame Relay). IST956I should give the actual value being used if it is known, and if it is not known then no MAXDATA should be displayed.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All using connection networks. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: MSGIST956I has incorrect value for * * MAXDATA when displayed for a dynamic * * connection network PU. A value of 265 * * is shown, but network traces reveal the * * actual value being used is much larger. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When a display is done for a dynamic connection network PU the MAXDATA value in message IST956I is pulled out of the PU's RDTE. However, for LAN connected resources, the MAXDATA value coded in the RDTE is ignored. MAXDATA is instead learned from the connection network.
Problem conclusion
Display processing for IST956I now checks to see if an NCB is known for this PU, and if it is the value from the NCB is used in the message. If no NCB is associated with the PU then the MAXDATA= portion of the message is left off completely since the value in the PU RDTE is misleading. This is already the practice when this message is displayed for a link station. For an XCA connection network dynamic PU we do indeed learn the value for MAXDATA and have access to it via the NCB pointer, so for a display of this type of dynamic PU message IST956I will have MAXDATA on it. For an NCP Frame Relay connection network dynamic PU we do not have access to the real MAXDATA value (there is no NCP pointer in the PU RDTE) so a display of that type of dynamic PU will not show MAXDATA in message IST956I. VTAM Messages and Codes (SC31-6546-00) must be updated for IST956I to indicate that another valid form of the message is also PU SAP=sapaddress MAC=macaddress (with no MAXDATA=n). This form will be used when no valid MAXDATA can be displayed.
